My UV Patch Diaries: Malinda

My UV Patch Diaries: Malinda’s Low-Key Weekend

Malinda’s Profile Summary

Skin Color: Light
Eye Color: Dark
Hair Color: Black
Phototype: 3
Skin Type: Mixed
Favorite Type of Sunscreen: Cream

Malinda, one of our LovelySkin Graphic Designers, spends her days creating the images that make our site truly lovely to shop. When she first embarked on her My UV Patch journey, she was concerned about the level of sun exposure she receives on a daily basis, specifically while driving.

“I had seen photos of a retired truck driver who experienced significantly more sun damage on the left side of his face than on the right from spending so much time on the road without sunscreen. It was really eye-opening, and I was interested in getting answers about how to best protect myself in the car.”

Malinda put her My UV Patch on at about 9:00 a.m. when she first sat down at her desk. The UV index was only 2 at this point, but it still put her at medium risk. By noon, when she stepped outside to scan her patch again, the UV index had climbed all the way to 8, putting her at very high risk! Then when it came time to drive home at 6:00 p.m., the UV index had crept back down to 2, but Malinda still made sure to reapply sunscreen beforehand. She reached for La Roche-Posay Anthelios AOX Daily Antioxidant Serum with Sunscreen SPF 50.

“This serum worked great under my makeup, but it also applied smoothly over my makeup as well. And extra anti-aging benefits are always a huge plus!” At the end of the day, with an evening spent inside watching Netflix, her sun exposure score was hovering right around 60 percent.

The next day was a Saturday, so instead of showing up at the office at 9:00 a.m., Malinda got to work doing chores around the house. With her first scan, she found the UV index to be at 4, with a medium to high risk. Noon once again proved to present the highest index of the day at a 7, so when she hopped in the car to run errands, she made sure to reapply sunscreen.

Malinda's My UV Patch Diaries

For a laidback weekend, she found La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50 Mineral Tinted Primer Daily Tone Correcting Primer with Sunscreen to be the perfect choice. This primer gave her a little color correction without the need for a full makeup routine, giving her more time to spend getting things done and hanging out with her family and friends.

At an evening barbeque, the UV index was 6, and Malinda found that her My UV Patch was a major conversation starter.

“All of my friends were curious about the blue heart on my arm, and it felt good to spread the word about sun safety.” She ended the day with a sun exposure score of 80 percent.

Malinda wound up loving the weightless feel of the patch and she walked away with a much better idea of how to keep her skin safe from harmful rays.

“I was never one to apply and reapply sunscreen growing up because I rarely ever burned. But now I see that you’re still at major risk for sun damage, even if you never actually experience the redness and pain of an actual sunburn.”
