Here's more of his background:
After completing an internship/residency at the University of Alabama Children's Hospital in Birmingham, he completed a residency at Barnes Hospital at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He's been in private practice since 1992.
At his Advanced Skin Research Center, Dr. Schlessinger has performed more than 250 clinical trials over an 18-year period, including trials of:
- Dysport
- PurTox
- Xeomin (new forms of botulinum toxin)
- Liposonix
- Revance topical botulinum toxin
- More than 10 new compounds for psoriasis
In 1997, he started LovelySkin.com, which now has hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide. LovelySkin.com is now one of the largest skin care websites in the world today. The flagship retail store, LovelySkin, offers more than 8,000 products from 180 skin care lines, and is the first store of its type in the country. Altogether, Dr. Schlessinger employs 75 people.
Yet another accomplishment is that he and his son (Daniel) created the first stick-formula body balm with hydrocortisone. The patent is pending on this invention.
Dr. Joel Schlessinger is a humanitarian, donating significant amounts of time to causes that matter.
After Haiti was hit with the earthquake, he and his family traveled to Haiti twice, as part of a relief effort. His company is a strong supporter of AIDS charities in Rwanda; donates makeup to women recovering from addictions; and donates makeup to women in battered women's shelters.
