Dr. Schlessinger Quoted in Self Magazine About Dangers in MediSpas
We are very proud that Dr. Schlessinger was quoted in Self Magazine (August Issue) regarding the dangers of MediSpas. As you may know, Dr. Schlessinger actually introduced legislation in the State of Nebraska designed to reduce the dangers associated with an unregulated treatment called LipoDissolve. While this didn't get through the legislature, changes have already occurred that led to the bankruptcy of two of the major producers of this dangerous treatment, and some of this may be due to the work Dr. Schlessinger did as President of the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery (2007) and in his work as President of the Nebraska Dermatology Society (2003-2007).

Tanning Beds as Deadly as Arsenic
My patients know that I agree wholeheartedly with this assessment of tanning beds. Now, we have evidence from the respected World Health Organization (WHO) that proves this. Unfortunately, the Indoor Tanning Bed Industry is still trying to convince people that tanning isn't really all that bad. This report shows the deep concern of the WHO about this practice and the need for further regulation in order to keep teens out of these booths.

New Study on Hidradenitis Suppurativa (Boils under the arms and in the groin area)
We are very excited to be recruiting patients for a clinical trial on a condition that, historically, has had poor responses to treatment. This condition is seen as boils that occur in the underarm area and groin, and tend to get worse with time. The drug in the study is an injectable medication. The study will be a 52-week study with 13 required visits to the office.
In order to qualify, you must be 19 years of age or older, be in good general health, and willing to come in for all required visits. You will receive compensation for your participation.

Psoriasis Study
Dr. Schlessinger is conducting a study testing two topical medications vs. placebo to treat Psoriasis of the body. The study is fairly short, lasting only 28 days and consisting of only 3 visits during the course of this study.
In order to qualify for this study, you must be at least 19 years of age, be in good health, and must have at least 10% of your body surface area affected (trunks, arms, and legs).
You will be compensated for your participation in this study.

Psoriasis Study
We will soon be recruiting patients for a psoriasis study, testing an injectable medication. Participants that qualify for this study will be exposed to three different dosing regimens during the trial. In order to qualify for this study, you must be at least 19 years of age, and you must have a moderate to severe diagnosis of chronic plaque type psoriasis for at least 6 months prior to starting the study.
Each patient will undergo a minimum of 15 study visits over approximately 49 weeks.
There will be compensation for participation in this study.

Fat-Dissolving Ultrasound Study
This study is only available to patients who live in Omaha, NE.
In the very near future Skin Specialists, P.C will be testing an Ultrasound Device that will treat adipose tissue (body fat) on the abdomen. The Ultrasound Device to be tested delivers High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) energy that can safely and effectively disrupt subcutaneous adipose tissue (body fat) to provide a non-invasive approach to treat adipose tissue.
Please note that if you are diabetic or have heart problems, you would not qualify for this study. You cannot have had any aesthetic procedures in the general region of treatment (abdomen), have had gastric bypass or lap-band surgery, and cannot be on prescription or over-the-counter weight loss medications.
This study will last for 24 weeks and require 8 visits to the office. In order to qualify for this study, you must be between the ages of 19-65, and participants must agree not to alter their normal and regular diet or exercise routines during the course of the study.
There will be compensation for participation in this study.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) Observational Study
Skin Specialists, P.C. is conducting a very important observational study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic ointment 0.03% or 0.1% in the treatment of subjects with eczema (atopic dermatitis). The study will last for 10 years; and subjects will be required to come to our office each year for assessment of their atopic dermatitis and for a general physical exam. A skin check will be performed once every two years and there will be two interviews, either by phone or by a mailed questionnaire.
In order to qualify, you/your child must have been exposed to Protopic by the age of 16. You/your child must have used the Protopic to treat the eczema (atopic dermatitis) for 6 weeks, either continuously or intermittently.
Subjects will receive a $10.00 gift card after each subject interview.
