Latisse Approved by FDA for Eyelash Growth
The FDA has recently approved Lattise, a product for eyelash growth, and an exciting validation that many of the products we have sold for the past three years for eyelash growth actually do work!
The most exciting thing about this particular product is that we have something that is very similar, if not exactly the same – IN STOCK NOW! Our product is Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash, the initial product that sparked this explosion in eyelash growth products, and precipitated intense competition from the manufacturer of Latisse, Allergan.
The competition resulted from Jan Marini’s use of a product that was nearly identical to the active ingredient in Latisse, which brought on a patent infringement suit from Allergan. Fortunately, we had purchased a huge amount of this product, as we knew it would be withdrawn once Allergan started to work on Latisse.
We still have some of this product and it doesn’t expire for a year, so if you are interested in purchasing something that is nearly identical to Latisse and available now, feel free to purchase this one. We also have many other products for eyelash growth on our site, including Jan Marini’s Marini Lash, Revitalash, MD Lash and several others. These all contain peptides rather than bitamoprost, the active ingredient in Latisse.
From what the reviews we receive say, the peptide-containing products do well, but may not produce results as quickly as Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash. Dr. Schlessinger was quoted in the Wall Street Journal in the article, "Keeping up appearances in a downturn." This article discussed ways that cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists are helping their patients to cope with the economy. One quote from Dr. Schlessinger in the article: "Things are so bad in the financial markets that investments aren't even worthwhile anymore, so people are investing in themselves." This is one reason that Dr. Schlessinger feels his cosmetic business is still strong, but it is tempered with initiatives to allow these treatments to be more affordable.

Prices for the New Year to remain the same at Skin Specialists
In recognition of the challenges in the economy, we have made the decision to keep our prices the same for at least the first quarter of the new year. While we typically would adjust our prices upward for cost of living, we realize the challenges this economy has brought and want to help our patients out as much as possible. Acne Treatment Research by Dr. Schlessinger Approved
EpiDuo, the newest acne treatment approved, was researched by Skin Specialists and its research arm, Advanced Skin Research Center. The treatment should be available within the next several months at Skin Specialists, and we anticipate it should be an excellent addition to our options. A combination of Differin and Benzoyl Peroxide, the drug was researched several years ago by our site and was very well received.

Studies at Skin Specialists
We are currently still recruiting for several studies at Skin Specialists, including a new study on precancerous lesions. This study involves a topical medication that is used twice daily to result in improvement. Sign up here to receive information on this study.

Acne Study
Dr. Schlessinger is currently screening for an acne study; this study involves testing a topical medication for mild to moderate acne. The study will last for 12 weeks and require you to be seen in the office for 5 follow up visits. In order to qualify you must be at least 12 years of age. Toenail Fungus (onychomycosis) Study
Skin Specialists PC, is currently conducting a study for patients that have been diagnosed with toenail fungus (Onychomycosis). In order to qualify, you must have at least one of your big toenails affected 25%.
This study involves the use of an oral medication. There are five different dosing regimens tested. The study will last for 58 weeks and will require 14 visits to the office.

Psoriasis Study
We are currently recruiting for a new psoriasis study involving the use of an investigational injectable drug to treat the symptoms of moderate-severe plaque psoriasis. The study will last for 12 weeks and require approximately 7 visits to our office. In addition to coming in to our office, you must agree to go to an off-site location to obtain an EKG and chest x-ray.
In order to qualify at least 10% of your body must be affected with plaque psoriasis, and you must be healthy, must not have used Enbrel (injectable medication to treat psoriasis), and must be at least 19 years of age. Eczema (atopic dermatitis) Observational Study
Skin Specialists PC, is conducting a very important observation study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic ointment 0.03% or 0.1% in the treatment of subjects with eczema (atopic dermatitis). The study will last for 10 years; subjects will be required to come to our office each year for assessment of their atopic dermatitis and for a general physical exam. A skin check will be performed once every two years and there will be two interviews, either by phone or by a mailed questionnaire.
In order to qualify, you/your child must have been exposed to Protopic by the age of 16. You/your child must have used the Protopic to treat the eczema (atopic dermatitis) for 6 weeks, either continuously or intermittently.
Subjects will receive a $10.00 gift card after each subject interview.
