Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures Demand Continues to Grow!
According to research performed by the Boston University School of Medicine and the Laser and Cancer Center of Indiana, the demand for cosmetic and non-cosmetic dermatologic procedures and the overall concern for maintaining healthy skin continues to grow. Researchers point to two significant trends as an answer for an ever-growing skin-conscious society: increase in noninvasive skincare procedures such as Botox and fillers, and a desire to reverse signs of aging. These will hopefully contribute to improved care of the skin and an emphasis on prevention of skin aging/skin cancer and improved health.

For the past 15 years, we have been privileged to participate in some of the groundbreaking research that has led to these improvements and expanded options, including the release of Dysport recently. It’s extremely motivating to see concrete statistics provide proof that a growing number of people are benefiting from the advancement of dermatological research and surgical procedures! If you are interested in cosmetic dermatology, please email Rachael@LovelySkin.com or call the office at 334-7546 and ask for Rachael.

When Beauty Rest Turns Ugly - Your Pillow may be to Blame!
A fluffy, minor threat to your skin may be lurking atop your mattress as you read this. Some of the easiest ways to encourage a clear complexion are often overlooked, and one of the easiest ways to prevent an impending breakout is by changing your pillowcase and bed linens on a regular basis. While we don't always think about these items as harboring bacteria, they frequently do. The good news is that with simple attention to changing bed linens at least biweekly, these concerns can be avoided.

If you have any questions regarding acne or wish to be seen by Dr. Schlessinger as a patient for this concern, give us a call at 334-7546 or email us at Info@LovelySkin.com.
Hot or Cold for Hand Washing?
One healthy habit strengthens our resistance to infection more than anything else we do in the course of a day, hand-washing. And if you’re not a habitual hand-washer, it’s time to start soaping up those palms on a regular basis. With the swine flu virus continuing to take its toll and the annual threat of the oncoming seasonal flu virus, it’s of utmost importance to assure you remain in good health by simply remembering to wash your hands often.

But should we be scrubbing our paws with hot or cold water? The New York Times article cited below gets to the bottom of whether water temperature makes a difference in warding off potential infection.

Collagen in Your Cup ah’ Joe?
Although I love coffee myself, I don't believe that drinking collagen will make any difference in your wrinkles. On the other hand, it is an example of one of the many misleading wrinkle ads out there.

Study of Identical Twins Reveals Secrets to Looking Young Longer
You’ve probably heard this all before—excess sun, smoking, alcohol, and stress will exaggerate your physical age to a large degree, often times causing you to appear a decade older than what you actually are. But it can be easy to dismiss these common aging accelerants if you don’t have visual proof of the toll they take on your appearance. The MSNBC article cited below, featuring results on identical twins with opposite lifestyles, gives you side-by-side proof of just how drastically unhealthy indulgences, sun damage, and stress affect your skin.
