Researchers Explore Relationship Between Adolescent Distress and Acne

Updating the Rules for Skin Cancer Checks
The New York Times recently published the following online-article, which addresses how often we should get a skin cancer check-up, and more importantly, by whom. Although much of the information presented is accurate and relevant, I want to emphasize to those patients concerned with questionable skin abnormalities that it’s as important to consider who is doing your examination as it is to consider how often you schedule a check-up. If you are questioning a problem area on your skin and its potential threat to your health, always seek the advice of a board-certified dermatologist!

Psoriasis Study
Dr. Schlessinger is now conducting a study testing two topical medications vs. placebo to treat Psoriasis of the body. The study is fairly short, lasting only 28 days and consisting of only 3 visits during the course of the study.
In order to qualify for this study you must be at least 19 years of age, be in good health, and must have at least 10% of your body surface area affected (trunks, arms, and legs).
You will be compensated for your participation.

Psoriasis Study
Dr. Schlessinger is currently recruiting patients for a psoriasis study. This study will be testing an injectable medication. Participants that qualify will be exposed to three different dosing regimens during the trial. In order to qualify, you must be at least 19 years of age and you must have a moderate to severe diagnosis of chronic plaque type psoriasis for at least 6 months prior to stating the study.
Each patient will undergo a minimum of 15 study visits over approximately 49 weeks.
There will be compensation for participation.

New Study on Hidradenitis Suppurativa (Boils under the arms and in the groin area)
Skin Specialists, P.C. is recruiting patients for a clinical trial on a condition that, historically, has had poor responses to treatment. This condition is seen as boils that occur in the underarm area and groin, and tend to get worse with time. The drug that is going to be used is an injectable medication. The study will be a 52-week study with 13 required visits to the office.
In order to qualify, you must be 19 years of age or older, be in good general health, and willing to come in for all required visits. You will receive compensation for your participation.

Wrinkle Questionnaire Study
Dr. Schlessinger is currently enrolling patients for a wrinkle questionnaire study. There is no treatment or study drug provided with this study. You will be required to complete 2 visits and will be compensated for your time. To qualify, you must be at least 19 years of age and you must be Botox/botulinum toxin naïve. Enrollment will be closing soon!

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) Observational Study
Skin Specialists, P.C. is conducting a very important observational study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic ointment 0.03% or 0.1% in the treatment of subjects with eczema (atopic dermatitis). The study will last for 10 years; subjects will be required to come to our office each year for assessment of their atopic dermatitis and for a general physical exam. A skin check will be performed once every two years and there will be two interviews, either by phone or by a mailed questionnaire.
In order to qualify, you/your child must have been exposed to Protopic by the age of 16. You/your child must have used the Protopic to treat the eczema (atopic dermatitis) for 6 weeks, either continuously or intermittently.
Subjects will receive a $10.00 gift card after each subject interview.
