This has been a good year for us at LovelySkin and Skin Specialists and we are hoping the next year will be as good for all of our patients and customers. We were fortunate to have experienced appreciable growth, culminating in a new home for LovelySkin which includes a total of 20,000 square feet, taking into account our distribution area.
Logan and Jeff, our top-notch IT staff, as well as the graphics folks, led by Heath, worked long hours to make our progress happen on time and better than we could have ever expected. Stacy, our head of Aesthetica Day Spa, trained our store staff with my supervision and has continued as a mentor for them. Jackie, my invaluable PA, carried a load that was overwhelming at times in order to keep things going while I dealt with construction, Haiti, conferences, publications and all sorts of other issues.
Happily, several of our staff had babies, including Megan (one of our nurses) and Dianna (in our study department). Several of our staff (Cori, Rachel, Ashleigh) were married as well, a joy that all of us shared.
My two trips to Haiti with my family were a personally rewarding and humbling experience. I plan to continue to help internationally in the future as well and will keep you informed.
Personally, it has been a rewarding year as well, with the publication of a study on demographic trends in cosmetic surgery that was initiated and largely done by my son, Daniel (a 12th grader) and included the assistance of my PhD father, Bernie Schlessinger. It was a truly happy experience to see our three names in print alongside each other. View the article here.
My wife, Nancy, continues to play an increasing role in the daily activities at the office and LovelySkin and was featured in an article in 'Her' magazine, along with several employees. These included my outstanding office manager, Pam, 11 year employee Cathy, manager of LovelySkin.com, Chrissy, receiving manager for LovelySkin.com, Trish, Internet Marketing Director, and Stacey, LovelySkin retail store manager. Click here to view the article online. My daughter, Claire, put together a training manual for the store that has helped greatly as well.
The conference that I present in Las Vegas had a productive year as well, with over 225 attendees, as compared to 160 last year. My invaluable staff, including Cara, Rachael, Rachel and Leigh, along with Nancy, Pam and my son, Daniel, helped out greatly.
The other 45 employees not mentioned in this thank you note are, without a doubt, all worthy of a huge round of applause as well, with special thanks to my other managers, Colleen (billing), Felisha (front desk), Rhonda (study department) and Jamie (spa at LovelySkin retail). As we prepare for 2011 and another busy year, I would like to wish each and every one of our patients, customers and friends happy and healthy holidays and a new year replete with blessings!

A native of Minnesota, Jamie has over six years of experience as an esthetician. In Minneapolis, she worked as an esthetician and also was the Counter Manager for Nordstrom-Mall of America. Pediatric Acne Study for Patients 9-11 years of Age
Dr. Schlessinger is currently screening patients for a pediatric acne study. The medication being tested is a topical medication vs. Placebo. In order to qualify subjects must be 9-11 years of age and have a minimum of 20 acne bumps (Non-inflammatory/Inflammatory) on the face. This study will last for 12 weeks and will require 7 follow up visits to our office. Qualified participants will be compensated for their participation.

Acne Study for Female Patients 18-40 years of age
Skin Specialists, PC is conducting a study testing a topical medication to treat acne in female patients between the ages of 18-40. Your participation in this study will last for 12 weeks and will require 5 follow up visits to our office. To qualify you must meet the following criteria: Be in good health, fall between the ages of 19-40, can not be pregnant, nursing, or planning a pregnancy, must have at least 20 non-inflammatory lesions (papules, pustules) and 20 inflammatory lesions on the face, can not have a history of clinically significant anemia, lupus, or Rosacea. Qualified participants will be compensated for their participation.

Sun Damage (pre-cancerous lesions) Study
In the near future, Dr. Schlessinger will be recruiting for a new study testing a topical cream to treat sun damage, specifically pre-cancerous lesions to the face and/or balding scalp. Your participation in this study will be 18 weeks and will require you to come to our office for five visits. To qualify you must meet the following criteria: 19 years of age or older, have 5-20 pre-cancerous lesions on the face and/or balding scalp, must be in good general health and cannot be pregnant.
You will be compensated for your participation.

New Eyelash Growth Study Planned
We are currently looking for volunteers for a study on eyelash growth products. In order to participate in this study you must be a woman between the ages of 19 and 55 and have no evidence of eye problems or eye diseases. Additionally, you must not be contemplating any surgeries around this area.

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) Observational Study
Skin Specialists, PC is conducting a very important observation study to assess the long-term safety of Protopic ointment 0.03% or 0.1% in the treatment of subjects with eczema (atopic dermatitis). The study will last for 10 years; subjects will be required to come to our office each year for assessment of their atopic dermatitis and for a general physical exam. A skin check will be performed once every two years and there will be two interviews, either by phone or by mailed questionnaire.
In order to qualify, you/your child must have been exposed to Protopic by the age of 16. You/your child must have used the Protopic to treat the eczema (atopic dermatitis) for 6 weeks, either continuously or intermittently.
Subjects will receive a check for $10.00 after each subject interview.

Pediatric Scalp Psoriasis Study
Skin Specialists, PC is currently conducting a study testing a topical medication to treat scalp psoriasis in adolescent patients between the ages of 12-17. In order to qualify for this study, 20% of your scalp must be affected by psoriasis. The study will last for 17 weeks and will require 5 follow-up visits to our office.

Crow's Feet Study
In the near future, Dr. Schlessinger will be recruiting for a new study testing Botox for lateral canthal lines, also known as crow's feet. In order to qualify, you must be 19 or older, be in good health and have moderate to severe lateral canthal lines.
This study will last 150 days and will require you to come to the office for 8 visits.
