Dr. Schlessinger Featured in Oprah's "O" Magazine
The January issue of 'O" Magazine featured a discussion of eyelash treatments, with comparisons of Latisse to over the counter treatments such as Obagi ElastiLash, Jan Marini MariniLash and Revitalash. As the head of one of the first centers in the nation to sell both over the counter and prescription treatments I was quoted as saying that the main difference between these treatments is the initial length achieved. By this, I meant that we see tremendous amounts of growth initially that can sometimes lack fullness when using Latisse. Two options are to continue the Latisse for longer periods or transition from Latisse to one of the over the counter treatments, such as Obagi ElastiLash or Jan Marini MariniLash, in order to maintain thickness as well as length.

New Studies and Future Studies at Our Office
We will be recruiting for studies on psoriasis, toenail fungus, eyelash growth, athlete's foot, skin fungus and actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous lesions) over the next several months. There will be both injectable as well as topical medication options for the psoriasis study. Additionally, we are already recruiting for several acne studies and expect to have more studies beginning over the next several months.

New Treatments for Psoriasis Bring Relief to Patients
We are pleased to now have available many new and developing treatments for psoriasis for our patients. Most of these are treatments that came about because of clinical trials in which we participated over the past 15 years. One of the newest treatments is Stelara, an injectable drug that offers nearly complete improvement in patients who may have had severe involvement prior to taking it. Another drug that was clinically tested at our facilities is Humira, an injectable medication that has been especially effective in both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Acne Study
We are currently screening patients for a pediatric acne study. The medication being tested is a topical medication vs. placebo. In order to qualify, subjects must be 9-11 years of age and have a minimum of 20 acne bumps (non-inflammatory/inflammatory) on the face. The study will last for 12 weeks and will require 7 follow up visits to our office. Qualified participants will be compensated for their participation.

Actinic Keratosis Studies (pre-cancerous lesions)

Eyelash Growth Study
In the near future, we will be participating in a study testing a topical solution to increase eyelash growth. The study will last for 12 weeks and will require a total of 7 visits to our office. In order to qualify, you must be between the ages of 19-45, have clinical evaluation of short or thin upper lashes, can not be pregnant, nursing or planning a pregnancy, and must be willing to refrain from other prescription, cosmetic or over the counter eyelash enhancer products for the duration of the study.
