Q: Which products are best for puffy eyes and does caffeine wake up your eyes as well?
A: Caffeine is one of the best treatments for puffy eyes. The drug that is responsible for its effect is a known improvement for skin texture as well and is used in other medications for asthma. Dermatologists find it safe and effective and it is a great way to "wake up" your eyes!
My favorite product for dark circles is Lumiere, which contains caffeine as well as growth factors. Additionally, coffee beans are found in RevaleSkin products!

New Sunscreen Regulations Don't Fully Address the Issues, Dr. Schlessinger Says
Earlier this month, the FDA announced new requirements for over-the-counter sunscreens. These updated regulations seek to target unfounded or vague claims by sunscreen companies, listing specifications for any sunscreen seeking to advertise itself as 'broad-spectrum,' 'waterproof,' or with an SPF of 50+, among other rules. Although Dr. Schlessinger believes it is a step in the right direction, there is still progress to be made on store shelves.
"Unfortunately, the proposed FDA regulations are vague in the actual way that they will address the question of just what exactly is 'broad spectrum' in their minds," Dr. Schlessinger says. "It concerns me that there is quite a bit of difference in the standards for UVA protection at present and there is the chance that in trying to fix the current system, a new set of issues will develop."
While sunscreens with SPFs of greater than 50 are readily available, the FDA will also no longer allow companies to claim an SPF greater than "50+."
"I still see value in a range over 50 in some cases and skin conditions, so that is a concern to me," Dr. Schlessinger says.
He recommends using a sunscreen that contains broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) protection if you want full protection against sun damage. For additional protection, he advocates the use of Heliocare, a pill that acts as an "added insurance policy that helps if sunscreen isn't reapplied or is applied incorrectly."

Parabens: Making It Easier to Find Paraben-Free Products on LovelySkin.com
In recent years, the safety of parabens has been called into question with studies suggesting it may have carcinogenic properties. Parabens are the most widely used preservatives in cosmetics, skin and hair care products and extend the shelf life of products while preventing bacteria growth.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not warn people against the use of parabens and, in an official post, declared that at this time, "there is no reason for consumers to be concerned about the use of cosmetics containing parabens." However, since there have been questions, there has been a boom in paraben-free alternatives.
Many people are avoiding paraben-containing products because they believe the parabens may disrupt hormones or mimic estrogen, thought to be a factor in breast cancer development in some women. The FDA will continue to run tests to fully research this matter, but in the meantime, the choice to purchase paraben-free is left up to the consumer.

Dr. Schlessinger Published in the July issue of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery!
Dr. Schlessinger co-authored an important study designed to determine the safety and effectiveness of a high-intensity focused ultrasound device for non-invasive fat removal. The study is published in the July issue of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery and concluded that waist circumference is significantly reduced with the use of this device, although it is currently pending final FDA approval.
