RASHES

Dry Skin/Eczema

Eczema typically presents itself as an inflamed, itchy skin rash that can be limited to a few areas of the body or become widespread. Eczema can occur at any age but is most common in infants and young adults. Dr. Schlessinger has been involved in eczema research for many years and lectures across the country on this and many other skin topics.

About 50 percent of patients are affected throughout life. Eczema tends to run in families, particularly those with allergies.

Additionally, many eczema patients tend to have skin allergies to various products. Dr. Schlessinger performs skin testing for allergies and contact dermatitis and has the ability to test for many common allergens.

In addition to having participated in studies on eczema, Dr. Schlessinger and Skin Specialists carry several large sizes of effective moisturizers for the treatment of this condition, as well as special products formulated just for eczema patients.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a persistent skin disease wherein the skin becomes inflamed, with red, thickened areas and silvery scales, most often on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Patients with this chronic skin condition need not suffer! Dr. Schlessinger has participated in studies involving medications and treatments for psoriasis, and studies are ongoing in our clinic at this time on psoriasis. Additionally, we offer medical light therapy (PUVA and UVB treatments) for this condition. We also offer various products on our web site for treatment of this condition that can be used in conjunction with the medications Dr. Schlessinger will prescribe at the time of your visit.
