What is Xeomin?

It’s one of the newest anti wrinkle treatments on the market.

This product is offered by our office as a Dysport, Jeuveau and Botox alternative, an injected medication specifically for wrinkles. It has been used in Europe since 2005 and is now approved in the United States after trials that were, in part, performed here in Omaha, Nebraska under the direction of board-certified dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD.

How does Xeomin work?

Because of its ability to affect the muscles, Xeomin is also able to treat severe frown lines, crow’s feet and wrinkles between the eyebrows. It works by relaxing wrinkles, thereby preventing the muscle from contracting.

While this particular wrinkle injection helps to treat fine lines and wrinkles, you will still experience some ‘natural’ movement in the treated area, leading to a more relaxed appearance. Dr. Schlessinger finds that Botox and Dysport have a little more effect and consequently patients will have less movement in the treated areas than with this product, though the results are pleasing for all of these products. Some neurotoxins and injectables suit certain patients better than others, so it’s great that we now have a Botox alternative and multiple different forms of treatments for wrinkle relaxation.

How is it different from other wrinkle treatments, like Botox and Dysport?

Its unique formula has a somewhat less intense effect than Botox or Dysport. On average, its effects will last about 2 and a half to 3 months, compared to an average of 3 months for Botox injections and 3-4 months for Dysport.

Xeomin is also known as the “naked injectable” because it has a slimmed down molecule (unlike Botox and Dysport). As such, it may be a more effective anti wrinkle treatment for certain patients who have developed resistance to other neurotoxins.
What is Dr. Joel Schlessinger’s experience with Xeomin?

Dr. Joel Schlessinger was a part of the clinical trials for this Botox alternative and is uniquely familiar with the range and efficacy of the product. He is an expert on neurotoxins and other wrinkle relaxers and will work with you during your consultation to determine which anti wrinkle treatment is the best fit.
Are there any side effects or warnings with the use of neurotoxins?

As with all wrinkle relaxers, there are always possible side effects. Dr. Joel Schlessinger and his staff will work with you to determine if there are specific medical conditions or warnings that apply to you.
How much does a Xeomin injection cost?

How long do the effects of this anti wrinkle treatment last?

The effects and longevity of neurotoxins will vary from person to person. In general, the results of wrinkle relaxers tend to last around 2 and a half to 3 months, but the results in individual patients may be different.
