Not surprising, it does have a charcoal smell. It's not a great smell, but it's better than being fragranced! I will say I did use it more frequently at first and I broke out a bit. That was 100% my fault. I have acne prone skin and I over exfoliated. Once a week is more than enough for my sensitive skin.
