I think these pads are good for removing any excess residue not removed by the cleanser. As far as the difference I didn't really see or notice one. However I do have very "tough" skin it is oily and acne prone. I also have acne scars so maybe or someone who had normal skin may get better results. It does however leave the skin feeling clean without the astringent feel.
