I really wanted this to work out, but it didn't

Before applying this product for the first time, I gave the bottle a good shake as per the directions. I didn't hear the ball rattling around inside, I think because the bottle was really really full. The product dispensed out, and it was a consistency that I really liked–it was like a serum. I thought this was going to be my favorite sunscreen, one that's super easy to apply like a serum, absorbs well, and doesn't flake off hours later like a lot of physical sunscreens. The third time I used it, I gave it a shake and for the first time I heard the ball rattling inside. When the product dispensed, it was thick, gritty, way too tinted, and really difficult to apply. I think the bottle was so full initially that the clear oily part didn't mix with the thicker tinted part. The first two times I used it, it dispensed all the clear serum-like part, so the product that was left didn't have what it needed to mix properly. NeoStrata makes some really great sunscreens, but this one didn't turn out like I wanted it to. I wish NeoStrata made this sunscreen like a serum. A serum sunscreen would be very differentiated on the market, and it would be really sheer.
