good sunscreen back-up

I normally use a different brand of sunscreen and really love that, but I thought it might be good to branch out and try something else, so I turned to this. I haven't really been in the sun all that much since I've started using it (working remotely and all), so I can't speak to whether it helps prevent sunburn or anything. I will say that for the most part, it fades pretty well into my fair-to-light skin tone. There is a VERY slight white cast. It goes well under makeup, which I appreciate because it seems to be so rare. I do hate the packaging though. It keeps tipping over in my medicine cabinet, something that my other brand never does. So I can't ever see myself using this exclusively, but I would use it as a backup if I'm out of the other.

Best sunscreen under makeup

I’ve been using a sunscreen from a different brand for 18 years and it is the gold standard for fragrance free broad spectrum sunscreen but it’s a bit greasy under my makeup or not. Now when I looked up another sunscreen to go on under my makeup, the list of wants got bigger. I want semi matte, non tinted, fragrance free, reef safe, with skin benefits like preventing dark spots that are appearing with age. Voila, Dr. Dennis Gross dark spot sun defense broad spectrum spf 50 sunscreen! This is my new favorite for face/neck/and décolletage sunscreen! It goes on smoothly under makeup and no white cast! Now if it came in a bigger size with a hygienic pump like in my old favorite sunscreen, I would be extremely happy about that!

Recommended for dry skins

After using it a month in the summer time I can say it suits best for dry skin. The skin’s overall look with this spf on is good (despite a little bit of white stain it leaves) and the skin feels very comfortable. And it has good protection. On my combination skin it is a little bit shiny (what actually I don’t mind), but unfortunately it clogs pores. It needs to be cleaned deeply with cleansing oil or balm.

Not the greatest for oily skin

First, let me start by saying I am a Dr Dennis Gross fanatic. I have a number of his products, including the pore perfecting facial wash (LOVE LOVE LOVE) and the IPL serum. I was running out of my current sunscreen, and I decided to add another DDG product to the team, the Dark Spot Sun Defense Broad Spectrum sunscreen. It smells like any of sunscreen but this sunscreen is thiiiiccck. I put it on as the last skincare step before my foundation and it just never really dried down. Also it left a major white cast but I was thinking who cares about the cast, I’m covering it either foundation anyway. I alternate between 2 high end demi matte foundations, which especially in winter, usually stay Demi matte throughout the whole day, but not with this sunscreen. By mid day, I looked like an oil slick. Only reason I’m giving it 2 stars instead of one is because I love DDG and the ingredient list is amazing. It just went horribly wrong for me

This sunscreen does seem different

This is very easily absorbed and doesn't leave a white cast on my fair skin. I've been using better-quality mineral sunblocks for decades, but my complexion seems to be responding to this one in a different (positive) way, which I assume must be due to the Melatonin Defense Complex. Hard to put my finger on it, but I like the texture, the absorption, and the results. Makeup goes on well over it, too.
