It's actually hard to know how good this product is because skin cancer takes a long time to develop. My spouse uses it because her dermatologist suggests it. I hate the packaging, though. The jar is made of thick plastic -- unnecessary for the product. If I could find this formula in better packaging, I would.

I gave this to my son who developed an extreme sun-sensitivity when he was a little boy. We thought he had poison ivy (even throughout the winter). Come to find out it was not poison ivy (red itchy bumps) but an allergy to the sun. He now has to wear sunscreen and long sleeved shirts/pants during the hot summer!! After using Heliocare for a full month, he has had to worry less about wearing long sleeved clothing, still wears sunscreen and there have been no breakouts at all!! He will be using sunscreen but trying a sunscreen with a 30 SPF rather than a 50 to see if the heliocare still works. Even if he has to use a sunscreen of 50 SPF it is still better than having to do that PLUS wear SPF clothing on top of the SPF!! I would say this stuff works as it does not claim to take the place of a sunscreen.

I have used this from spring to fall for years. It works. Does it replace sunscreen? No, but if you are extremely sun sensitive, this helps wrap around your other protective measures. My skin will burn, even slathered up with spf 50, in about 15 minutes in the summer. Adding this helps prevent that. I still diligently wear sunscreen, and avoid the midday sun as much as feasible (can't live in a cave!), and this helps augment those measures. I do take a second capsule if I'm going to have an extended outside activity.
