Collagen or elastin: Quizzing LovelySkin staff

What's the difference between collagen and elastin? LovelySkin staff members put their skin care knowledge to the test to find out.

A woman with red curly hair smiles at the camera. She holds a sign in her right hand that says "collagen," and one in her left that says "elastin."

Video Summary

Collagen and elastin work as a team to keep skin looking firm and smooth, but each has its own job. In this video, Social Media Coordinator Kassie quizzes LovelySkin staff to see who can tell the two skin proteins apart.

What's the difference between collagen and elastin?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your skin, and it provides the structure that keeps skin firm. Elastin gives skin its flexibility, allowing it to stretch and snap back into shape. Your body produces less of both as you age, which contributes to fine lines, wrinkles and sagging over time. Daily sunscreen helps protect the collagen and elastin you already have, since UV exposure is a major contributor to their breakdown.
