I have always used a stain for my lips, even if I’m also applying an additional lip color. This is helpful in keeping coverage nice while eating and drinking. The brand I used forever discontinued its lip/cheek stain product and I looked everywhere for a dupe; this is the closest one I’ve found. I pat the stain on using my finger to very clean, very dry lips, even going beyond the border just a bit. Allow it to set and dry for a minute or so, then wipe off with a wet cloth. This method leaves a sheer finish which looks natural and stays put for a long time. My only wish would be the addition of a darker, more brownish color to the buying options.
