Makeup for Short Hair (VIDEO)

If you’ve taken the plunge and now sport a stylish fall pixie, bob or lob, you may be wondering how to switch up your makeup routine to get the most out of your new look. Your first instinct may be to up the glamor since you no longer have long locks to style, but in actuality, too much makeup can compete with your chic new cut. In this video tutorial, Kristen, our LovelySkin Aesthetician, demonstrates a quick makeup routine for short hair on LovelySkin Web Designer, Alonna.

Start the look by applying a matte foundation. Choose a liquid if you have normal to dry skin and a powder if you have normal to oily skin. Kristen is using Youngblood Liquid Mineral Foundation on Alonna. Use your clean fingers, a makeup sponge or a brush to buff on the product, taking care to blend away any lines. Don’t forget to take a little down your neck for a more uniform appearance.

To further perfect the skin and achieve a flawless finish, you can sweep on a mineral powder foundation. As a bonus, a powder will also help set your makeup and allow you to enjoy a long-lasting look. Kristen is using jane iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation in the shade Warm Silk.

By now, your complexion should appear matte and uniform. It’s time to add a pop of color with a little blush. Kristen is using Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush in Tulip, a pale dusty pink, for a naturally beautiful glow. To apply, smile and use a light-handed movement to dust blush on the apples of your cheeks with a brush.

Now it’s time to move on to the eyes. Subtly is key, here. You’ll want to enhance and define your eyes without overwhelming your hair or the rest of your makeup. Grab an eyeshadow in a neutral shade, such as a nude or taupe. We like glo minerals GloEye Shadow in the shade Fawn. Apply this shadow to your entire eyelid. Liquid liners tend to provide more vibrant, long-lasting color than pencils or gels. Use the pen to line just the top lash line, flicking out the ends for a small cat-eye if you’d like. Top off your eyes with a coat or two of mascara. One of our favorites is Youngblood Outrageous Lashes Mineral Lengthening Mascara.

This look’s lip color is an opportunity to let your personality shine. Anything goes, from a classic red to a deep berry to a pinky coral. As long as you love it, rock it. Kristen is using the glo minerals Cream Glaze Crayon in Dahlia, a fun magenta hue.

And that’s all there is to it! You’re ready for a day at the office or an evening out on the town with your short new ‘do.
