Not Enough Emulsification

The “Duo” from Dermalogica starting with the PreCleanse totally rocked my world when a sampler introduced me to the idea of two-stage cleansing. The PreCleanse did a pretty okay job with makeup, but the dispenser on TWO differently sized bottles both sprayed the oil out so fast it always got on my outer hand and on the counter instead of in my palm. It felt like a dirty trick way to get the customer to use more, but I made it work. Then I was introduced to a two stage dual oil cleanser from a German company and realized that I wasn’t getting the satisfaction and benefits of sufficient emulsification with Dermatalogica’s PreCleanse. To activate the full benefits of the oil, I had to rely on using cold standing water, just a little tiny amount of water on my fingertips, and rubbing in small circular motions while hoping…and still I am only getting slight milky-ish emulsification, very light and almost not even any milky white. I literally opened a tutorial online for how to use an oil cleanser online because based on the company’s guidance I felt I was doing the duo incorrectly. At first, I couldn’t make any milky anything appear! The directions mentioned “until it becomes milky” and I couldn’t figure out why I wasn't getting THAT. Not the best introduction to using an oil cleanser. While I do use my duo maybe two-three times a week when I need a good scrub (I wash my face at least three times a day because I’m religious about SPF, moisturizing with hyaluronic acid, and K-Beauty collagen masks), I remain unsatisfied at the small amount of emulsification I get from the PreCleanse and seriously, I’m perpetually super annoyed that their dispensers are designed to make you need two pumps not one. Once my bottle is cached I’m getting something I don’t feel I’ve settled for…there are plenty of oil cleansers with functional bottles that do what the directions indicate without sending a user to the internet. Oil cleanser didn’t start with PreCleanse, just my own use of it. It was a revelation at first. Now it’s meh.

Does the job but nothing special

It’s no different than any other oil cleanser I’ve tried. It’s a nice smell, but the performance doesn’t warrant the price point.

good

this is a good cleansing oil, but for the price I prefer DHC as there is less scent and less cloudy residue in my eyes when removing mascara and eyeliner.

Precleanse

Just ok. Feel as though it does the same thing as micellar water which is much cheaper.
