Retinols can be tricky! As a skin therapist for 20 years, I had so many patients who were hesitant to use retinols as they were given one from their doctor and it was super irritating and uncomfortable. Retinol needs to be introduced to the skin low and slow. I love the SkinCeuticals retinol line as it allows patients or clients to have a progressive treatment for their skin. Starting with the 0.3 and working up to the higher percentages works great and the results are fantastically smooth and youthful skin!

First, I love SkinCeuticals products. Yes, they are costly, but they deliver better results for me than any other products have in the past. The .3 retinol is a perfect retinol starter. As others have recommended, I used it 1x weekly for the first couple weeks, then 2x for 2 weeks, and on. So far, I'm seeing great, but gentle, results. A little peeling & redness which ends up being fresh, soft, smooth new skin. I'm 59, so this is a pretty miraculous thing! Hoping to continue & move to .5 retinol with the same results in the future. I would definitely recommend starting with this retinol. And you only use a little, so this will last a long time, making it more cost-effective.

I gave it 4 stars because for the short time I used it, it definitely worked as promised but unfortunately I guess I can't use Retinol products on my skin--I break out in what looks more like tiny blisters than acne and they take a very long time to go away. I've had this happen with other brands as well and I was hoping that this higher quality product from SkinCeuticals wouldn't cause this reaction, but it did. I’ve tried a few retinol products but my skin is so sensitive that it didn’t tolerate them well. But this retinol is tolerable and one that I can apply nightly. I add moisturizer afterwards to really hydrate my skin at bed time and it’s the perfect balance.

The real deal in a good starter concentration
I’m so glad SkinCeuticals has this 0.3 level, I’d previously tried the 0.5 level but couldn’t get through the retinalization process. This stuff is definitely doing it’s thing (I have so much flaking going on right now!), but it’s not so harsh on my skin that I haven’t been able to consistently increase my frequency. I did once a week for one week, twice a week for 1 week, every other day for 1 week and am now working on 2 days on/1 day off.
