Just strong enough!

At my age (71) I know retinol should be a part of my skin care regimen. This product gives me a healthy dose of retinol without the side effects of a stronger formula with more retinol. Any product above 25% retinol turns my skin red and flaky. This does not. It goes on like a lotion and even feels moisturizing!

Literally. I have never used a retinol product before, so I wanted to start out with the lowest formula and work my way up. I have been using it every other night with SkinMedica’s TNS Advanced Serum. I think it is the perfect combination of products. I didn’t want to worry about redness and peeling which I have heard can occur whenever using a retinol product. I am on my second bottle of retinol now and I think I will be using this religiously forever. I have a friend who uses this product and has been for years and she suggested it to me. If her skin is any example, I will be using this forever.

Only retinol for me!

I have tried several retinols, many at far more expensive price points, with no success. My sensitive, combination, acne prone skin always reacted poorly. I thought that retinol just wasn’t in the cards for me. I am creeping closer to 40 and decided I needed to give retinol another try. I wish I would have tried this sooner! I have been using it for 6 weeks without issue. No skin irritation or burning whatsoever. I did start slowly with once per week usage, building up to now using every other night. I am using this more preventatively, so the .25 provides the results I am looking for. I follow it up with a hyaluronic serum and a medium-weight moisturizer.

Very pleased so far

I’ve used many skinmedica products, though right now I happen to be using a different similar line other than this product. I purchased the Retinol Complex .25 specifically for its very low percentage retinol. My rosacea-prone, post-meno skin is easily irritated by strong actives, which has prevented retinol in the past. I use a good routine with Vit C, hyaluronic acid and sunscreen in the morning and glycolic acid at night a few times a week. At 54 my skin does look younger than my age. But I wanted to introduce retinol to treat sun damage and prevent deeper wrinkles. After several weeks use 2x/wk, this is the perfect starter retinol. Not a single day of irritation and noticeably brighter skin that can only be attributed to this one change. Worth the money.

I recently learned that gain more benefit from using a lower dose of retinol on a daily basis, than a large dose that could irritate your skin every once in a while. I have consistently been able to use this retinol three days a week without issue. I could probably up it to daily.

I have been using this all summer. I use it every other night. My skin has been fairly clear and some congested pores have opened up and cleared up. I have not had any issues with irritation at all. I had previously been using a lot of products (quality but extra strong) and my skin, which is combination, reacted with red irritated patches. So I backed off and began using a much milder combination and all irritation subsided while still helping my skin to remain clear and smooth. For reference, I am 69 and have enjoyed my time in the sun throughout my youth. I am moving up to the next level, and hopefully my skin will continue to tolerate and I will see continued improvement.
