Halloween Makeup Tutorial: Alien Queen

Finding a Halloween costume that’s fun and unique can sometimes be a challenge. This year, we went intergalactic and dressed Jenna, our Design Team Lead, up as an Alien Queen! Read on to discover how we achieved this easy Halloween makeup look with some funky and fresh new finds!

Step 1: Makeup

Everyone knows Alien Queens have skin that’s smooth as silk (with some help from the great skin care products we offer, of course!), so the first step is one of the most important. Perfect your complexion using a full-coverage foundation like the jane iredale Glow time BB Cream. Jenna used shade BB1, but there are ten gorgeous shades available for skin tones of all types! The antioxidant-rich formula contains naturally hydrating ingredients like sunflower seed oil and apple extract to promote a more even skin texture.

Next, you’ll need to set your look. We used the Au Naturale Semi-Matte Powder Foundation in shade Porcelain because it won’t weigh skin down and it’s made with 100% natural ingredients that will give skin the opportunity to breathe no matter where you’re at in the Milky Way!

It’s time to get extraterrestrial… with contour, that is! Jenna used the BY TERRY Eye Designer Palette – No. 2 – Color Design in deep purple to sculpt and define her best alien features. We love the BY TERRY Eye Designer Palette because the super soft, blendable shades apply with ease and are made with skin-loving minerals!

Next, Jenna chose cosmo-inspired shades to enhance her eyes. First, she applied the stila Suede Shade Liquid Eye Shadow in Violet Velvet to her outer corner. The lightweight, blendable formula glides on with ease while providing long-wear, crease-free color. Then, Jenna used the BY TERRY Eye Designer Palette again in the light purple color as a transition shade.

To create a star-worthy look, Jenna added the stila Suede Shade Liquid Eye Shadow in Something Blue to her inner corner. Then, she chose the jane iredale PurePressed Eyeshadow Palette in Storm Chaser to soften up the edges and add a subtle highlight beneath her eyebrows. The highly pigmented, antioxidant-rich shades nourish and protect skin with essential extracts and botanicals.

Now that the eyeshadow is complete, it’s time to activate the warp drive and achieve light speed with an intergalactic shimmer! Jenna chose stila’s Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in the shade Transcendence to add luminosity to her cheeks, forehead and nose. Lightweight and ultra-fine, this light-diffusing highlighter provides transfer-resistant coverage while enhancing any look. Then, she added a touch of shimmer to her eyelids with the stila Luxe Eye Shadow Palette – Happy Hour in the shade Highball. The unique shades are perfect for this alien queen as they feature micronized, silicone-treated pigments that easy build and blend for ultimate color and dimension.

Next, Jenna created a soft base by filling in her eyebrows with the BY TERRY Eye Designer Palette – No. 2 – Color Design in the shade Light Purple. Then, to create a tacky base and to hold the brows in place, she added stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Vivid Amethyst. The rich, buildable color adds a beautiful shimmer without the sheen for day or nighttime use. Last, she used purple glitter to give the brows some stardust-like dimension.

Now it’s time for liftoff! To give her eye look some drama, Jenna added a fun eyeliner shape to her eyes using theBalm Schwing! Black Liquid Liner. This super pigmented, ultra-matte formula features a thin, tapered felt tip applicator for smooth application that will last throughout the galaxy. To complete her eyes, Jenna used the stila Magnum XXX Mascara for a clump-resistant look that provides buildable volume while gently conditioning the lashes with 1% diamond powder.

Finally, Jenna used the BY TERRY Lip Expert Matte Liquid Lipstick in the shade Purple Fiction for a long-lasting color that keeps lips matte without drying them out and the stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Transcendence for some lip-loving luminosity.

Last (but certainly not least), Jenna added some space-inspired stars to her cheeks using the stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Snow. The smudge- and run-proof formula features an easy to use pen tip applicator for precise application. Then, she bedazzled her look with press-on jewels using the jane iredale PureBrow Brow Gel in Clear as a “glue”. Ideal for even the most sensitive skin, this mineral-rich formula kept the jewels in place without compromising her royal complexion!

Step 2: Hair

No alien queen is complete without some space buns! To create this sassy and fun hairstyle, separate your hair down the middle. Using a brush or comb, create a ponytail on each side of the head, just a few inches above the ears. Next, separate the ponytail into small, one-inch sections and tease with a teasing brush. Finally, fluff each ponytail and pin the excess hair into a bun shape. Set the look in place with a flexible hold hairspray like the Kenra Professional Platinum Hi Def Hairspray 16. The matte-finish, flake-free formula is perfect for a queen on the go!
