I alternate this .5 and the 1.0, using each every other day. The 1.0 was getting a little harsh on my aging skin, but I didn’t find the .5 did the job as well, so VIOLA, now I get happy medium effects of .75 overall. This is the best pump container, it hasn’t failed on me, yet, works til the last drop.

Worth the price!
I have used several different retinol products, some of which seemed to do nothing. This one actually works, though at first I did have some sensitivity (I had been using a different product which said it contained 1 percent retinol, but I wonder). This did cause initial dryness and itchiness, but within a week of using every other day I was able to tolerate using it every night. I’ve noticed lightening of dark spots and a refining of pores. I’ve used other SkinMedica products but this is the first of their retinol I’ve used. It really does pay to use medical grade products.

I have been using this retinol product for a year now. It is mild and hasn't caused any redness or scaly patches. If it seems too harsh in the beginning stages of using it I reccomend putting a thin layer of moisturizer on first and then layering on the retinol. It seems to be diminishing fine lines in my face

Rough start
I decided to upgrade from .25 to the .5 SkinMedica Retinol and planned to start with twice a week as indicated. I had been using the .25 three times per week with little to no flaking. My first time using the Retinol .5 I used too much product since one pump didn't seem sufficient to cover my face. Live and learn! I had quite a bit of peeling and flaking from that first use as well as stinging when I applied other products for several days. I waited another week and used just the one pump of product which I later saw was recommended. (It still doesn't seem like enough to cover my face.) I had a little flaking but very mild. After 3 weeks I have just started using it twice per week and I do see a difference in my skin. I will continue to order this and other SkinMedica products.

Gets better the more I use it!
I’m 67 years old and have been using Retinol 1% for over 5 years now. I recently started using the .5% and find that it works very well as I apply it almost every night before bedtime. I receive many compliments on how smooth my skin looks. I believe the .5 strength is just right for me!

Works well
I recently got into retinols. This was a little irritating for my skin at first. I found that it made my skin flaky, but I figured out how to use it. I use a small amount of a very light moisturizer first. I wait until it sinks in (about 5 minutes) and then I apply this retinol. I apply 1 full pump. I let it sink in and then I go over it with a thicker moisturizer. I wake up with really soft skin and no breakouts! My skin looks and feels great!
