Video Summary

Neutral colors are in and not only in fashion. With their versatility and endless potential, neutral shades are making their way into makeup too. You can create everything from a natural, everyday look to a neutral glam that wears perfectly for a night out.

Neutral glam makeup from a to z

Step 1: Start with your base

A great makeup look starts with the perfect base. Start with your regular skin care routine. Then, follow with a primer and foundation of your choice. Using a concealer can minimize the look of discoloration or dark circles under eyes. If you like a more matte or transfer-proof look, set with setting powder.

Step 2: Neutral eye makeup

Choosing eyeshadow shades that are a few shades deeper than your skin tone can help you build dimension. The closer to your skin tone the shades are, the more natural your look will be.

Mixing shades and layering lighter and deeper shadows can create more range. You can even try mixing shimmer shades with matte shades to add some drama.

Whether you’re going for a neutral eye makeup look or choosing more bold colors, it’s all about experimentation. What works for someone else’s eye and face shape may not work for you, but don’t be afraid to play around. Makeup has no rules!

Step 3: Sculpt and perfect your cheeks

To bring your makeup look together, finish your base with bronzer and blush. A bronzer can add warmth to your cheeks, or you can use it to define your features like a contour.

For a sun-kissed look, apply to the tops of your cheekbones and across the forehead. Then, apply blush to bring it all together. For a natural flush, brush it over the bridge of your nose and over the apples of your cheeks. For a more sculpted look, focus on the tops of your cheekbones and blend into your temples.

Again, it’s all about your face shape and what features you want to highlight. Once you’re finished, you can add a touch of glow with highlighter.

Step 4: Finish with your lips

A bold red lip is always in fashion, but a neutral makeup look is all about drawing attention to your best features. If you prefer a bolder eye look, choose a lip color that’s only a few shades off from your natural shade. If you prefer a low-key eye look, use lighter shades on the lids and a deeper color on your lips, but keep it in the neutral family to be sure everything ties together at the end.

The easiest way to customize your color is by using a lip liner, gloss or lipstick, so you can play with color intensity. The more opaque the formula and the deeper the color, the more bold your look will be.
