This is the first time I used it. It is pretty strong. after I applied it my face was itchy all over. Perhaps I applied a little bite more. Please use a small amount only especially for the new users. Until your skin used to it.

Too strong for me
I think I would love this product except that my sensitive skin had a horrible reaction to it. I used it once, within 2 days my skin looked and felt like a horrible sunburn. Red and bumpy. Then it started peeling. It's been almost 2 weeks and I'm still peeling. I don't think Retinol is for me.

I purchased this product by accident! Regardless, I decided to use it after getting instructions. It was suggested that I use it once a week initially because it might irritate the skin. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no irritation on my skin. Because I don't want to go overboard, I'll use it 2-3 times a week. The end result for me was very smooth, almost translucent skin. I would buy this product again...on purpose!

SkinCeuticals NEVER lets you down!
Before I bought it, my mother told me « why would you pay 75$ for a retinol cream when there’s a good one that costs barely 25?! » I smiled & told her: « coz it’s Skinceuticals » :) Amazing how you start to feel the results right after the first application: your skin begin to peel- slightly not too much- and feels tighter! Careful if you have a sensitive and/or dry skin though, as it’s a little strong, meaning you will feel a tingling sensation on the first few applications, perhaps the need to scratch your face (which you should NOT do!), and your skin will get a bit dry so you will need to simultaneously use moisturizing creams & masks! Skinceuticals advises customers to start with the lower concentration, but knowing that I live in an extremely hot country, I can only use it during the winter, so I started directly with 0.5! Also avoid too much sun & light exposure, and use plenty of sunscreen, even during winter! I didn’t finish the treatment yet but I do know that Skinceuticals never lets us down :)

SkinCeuticals retinol 0.5 refining night cream
I have been using retinol 0.5 cream for more than half a year. I have super sensitive skin and my skin was dry and peeling,even I used it for just 2 or 3 times a week. No matter what moisturizer and how many layers of moisturizers I applied on my skin. I almost wanted to give up on it. However I did feel my skin was tightened and I have mature skin. Finally I decided to continue using retinol cream while applying skinceuticals intensive hyaluronic acid next to it. It makes a lot of difference. My skin is not dry anymore and has become firmer. Now I put on my retinol cream every night !

Great starter retinol!
I've been pairing this with the glycolic renewal cleanser and using both is a little too much for my skin. Haven't found the right balance between using this and the other, but will keep trying. The times that I have used this, I have been very happy with the results and would definitely recommend this product especially as a base retinol product to try out.

Favorite retinol
I love SkinCeuticals .5 Retinol. I have been using this product for the past five years and I’ve never had an issue with the strength or the application. Better to use it once a week for 2 weeks. Then 2 a week for 2 weeks then 3 times a week for 2 weeks and so on. I do wish that the container was a better design as it’s constantly leaking out of the nozzle whenever you squeeze it to apply at night but that’s really my only complaint. I upgraded to a 1% retinol and that was a little too strong for my delicate skin; downgraded back to this formula as I had to take a break after plastic surgery was healing. It’s never dried my skin out so figured I go back through a tube to recondition my skin. I like to use retinol pretty much every night when I’m on a retinol routine but the SkinCeuticals .5 is absolutely the best formula and it has the best feeling/ it feels like silk after you apply it at night. I use it with triple lipid restore on top.

On my 3rd tube. Changed my skin for the better. Fewer break outs and more even and smooth skin. Would be nice if they would change the packaging to one that won’t break open. Second tube kept breaking open and leaking. Start slow and build up to nightly or every other night. Less is more when it comes to retinol. Totally with the price and won’t ever leave home with out it. Might try the 1% next time.

Great Product for Your Skin
I have used SkinCeuticals since 1995 although it has been bought 3 or more times so 25 years ago you would not have found the product under SkinCeuticals. Yes, I have used this this long although started with 1.0 as do not think they had .05 way back when. Of course, as I’ve aged, and my skin has become thinner I have dropped to .05 and it is perfect in maintainIng fairly wrinkle free skin face and neck. I am a dedicated fan of SkinCeuticals. Start with the lower concentrations and build and my guess you will see amazing results in 6 months continuing as you use this product.
