I think this is the best retinol you can buy without a prescription. You cannot go wrong with any SkinMedica product, especially the Retinol. If you have never used Retinol you may want to select a lower strength until your skin gets used to using Retinol. Then you can step up gradually to the 1.0.

Potent and Effective
This is the best Retinol product I have used. While it is potent, it works well at nights over the TNS Essential Serum. I am using this only 3 times a week which works well for my skin and does not leave my skin red and raw. It is the best retinol I have used to date including Obagi and Skinceuticals.

Amazing product
This product is phenomenal!! Great for keeping your skin clear and fresh. However, make sure you build up to the 1% and start with something much lower, otherwise you'll peel. I would start with .25% then .50% or .65% (which is the Tri-Retinol), before you buy the 1.0.

I am noticing a smoother complexion and maybe a bit of dark spot fading, but it has only been a few weeks. I have used retinols in the past and thought my skin was rather sturdy so I used it every night instead of following the directions to use every 2-3 days at first. That was a mistake. It is a quality retinol and will dry your skin if you don't ease in to it.

1% retinol with no irritation

I used 2 other Retinol products in the last 2 years and this one works the best. It is much stronger than the other 2 (one was a 1% Retinol). I started using it daily just as the other 1% I just finished, but that was too harsh for my skin. I backed down to 3 days weekly and am slowly progressing to 4 days weekly. It leaves my skin softer, smoother, and looks more radiant. I am happy I bought this and plan to reorder when this bottle is empty.

SkinMedica Retinol 1.0 vs Obagi Retinol 1.0
Both appear to work exactly the same except however the SkinMedica product is about $30 more. I expected at this price it would work a lot better than the Obagi...but, no difference. I will stick with my Obagi here on this site which does the exact same thing but is $30 less expensive. I gave this 3 stars because the pump is better on SM than on the Obagi tube...but it's no way worth paying $30 extra for a good delivery system!

Great for acne!
I am only in my mid 20s and have been using prescription retinoids for a while now to control cystic acne. I have recently switched to the SkinMedica Retinol Complex 1.0 and it works amazing for half the price of going to the doctors and paying for a prescription. It is also a plus for anti-aging. It never hurts to get a head start taking care of your skin. I never got any irritation, even with my sensitive skin, but I did switch over from a prescription strength retinoid. This is seriously strong stuff
The texture has less slip than expected, so keep that in mind when trying to distribute the pea-size amount over the whole face. I had been using a low-strength retinol product from the drugstore for about a year. I then tried a trial-size of a competitor 1.0 product every other day with no trouble, and then I switched to this product without interruption. I still started slowly--3x/week for the first week, then every other day for the following week. My skin felt completely fine. After using it 2 nights in a row, my skin became very sensitive and red, and my skin peeled. This stuff is strong--my skin felt so raw that even water was irritating. It took 6 days to recover, and I am going to re-try with the 0.5, upon advice from the kind consultation that I received from a LovelySkin.com staff member today.
